I did not see the game as I was on vacation.
News:
Steven Wright was sent back to Pawtucket after earning the win the other night. What gratitude huh?
THE GOOD:
Shane Victorino was 2 for 4 with a stolen base. Mike Napoli was also 2 for 4. Brock Holt was 1 for 3.
THE BAD:
Jackass of the night is a tough one but I'll go with Jarrod Saltalamacchia. He left 4 men on base and in a 1-2 run game until late, those are huge outs to make.
Jackass of the Night
Salty also had no help from the rest of the offense. Jacoby Ellsbury was 0 for 4 with a strikeout for the second consecutive game. Dustin Pedroia and Jose Iglesias were both 0 for 4.
THE UGLY:
David Ortiz and Daniel Nava were just 1 for 4 each. Jon Lester was the hard luck loser when he allowed 3 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings, normally that would be good enough for a win. Junichi Tazawa allowed the 3rd and final run to score on a single but pitched a scoreless 8th inning.
Final Thoughts:
This was one of those games where nothing went right on offense. They had chances throughout the game but couldn't get a run across. Lester didn't pitch that bad either. Oh well, luckily the Rays lost so at 58-38, the Sox remained 3.5 games in front.
