Off-Day and Rainout News (4/25/17)

Monday was an off-day and it was learned that Matt Barnes had been suspended 4 games for head-hunting Manny Machado in the wake of the Dustin Pedroia spiking. According to all reports Barnes acted alone after Eduardo Rodriguez missed hitting him earlier on Sunday. This is a big blow to the Sox who were supposed to have a 3 game set with the revamped New York Yankees. Not having Barnes is not a good thing the way the starters have been struggling lately.

It turns out, he wouldn't be needed tonight as a rainstorm postponsed tonight's game to July where the Yankees and Sox will play a double-header. The Sox also made a roster move as they placed Pablo Sandoval on the Disabled List with a sprained knee. Taking his place on the roster is the returning Josh "Razor" Rutledge who's rehab assignment with Pawtucket ended over the weekend.

Tonight's rainout could have been a blessing in disguise as the scheduled starter was Drew Pomeranz. Rather than toss him out, the Sox have Chris Sale and Rick Porcello pitching the remaining two games. The Yankees will counter with Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabbathia so they should be good games to watch.

Injury Watch:

Dustin Pedroia did NOT go through with an MRI and would have played tonight if the game wasn't rained out. He seems to be slowly getting over the spiking.

Tyler Thornburg has begun long tossing and since he hasnt faced live batters since February, it'll be at least a month before he gets back.

David Price said he felt fine after throwing a bullpen session. He will need a month as well at least.

No word on Carson Smith as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

As mentioned earlier, Josh Rutledge is ready to go.

Pablo Sandoval, as mentioned earlier, has a sprained knee so that could be 3 weeks to a month to heal.
