Sox Pound Mariners (5/10/19)

Vengeance is a dish best served cold. After the Seattle Mariners humiliated the Boston Red Sox back in March on opening day weekend, the Red Sox had this one circled. Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2, 4.53 ERA) tossed his best game of the season with 7 shutout innings while the offense exploded on the Mariners pitching. Mitch Moreland, Rafael Devers and Andrew Benintendi all hit home runs as the Sox moved to over .500 for the first time all season with a 14-1 thrashing of the Mariners at Fenway Park.

Final Thoughts:

Talk about sending a message. The Sox came out flat as a pancake opening weekend and the Mariners smacked them all around Seattle. Now the Sox seemed to have dug out of their hole and they whacked Seattle good. Not only did the bats produce but Eduardo Rodriguez quit nibbling and dominated. Getting 7 innings out of him was what the doctor ordered considering the bullpen games the Sox are tossing with David Price and Nathan Eovaldi out with injuries. The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees are playing each other so the Sox need to sweep the Mariners in order to gain ground on one or both of them. The win put the Sox above .500 for the first time all season at 20-19, 4 games behind the Rays for first place in the AL East. The Sox look to make it two in a row against Seattle tomorrow afternoon when "Slick" Rick Porcello (2-3, 5.11 ERA) goes up against "King" Felix Hernandez at 1:05 PM at Fenway Park.
