John Means got the ball in the top of the first inning and Mr. Mookie Betts singled to right to start. Rafael Devers whiffed, Xander Bogaerts grounded out to third and JD Martinez grounded back to the mound to end the inning. The O's wasted no time nailing Price in the bottom of the first as Jonathan Villar grounded out to second to start. Hanser Alberto singled to left and Trey Mancini walked, but Renato Nunez flied out to right. Anthony Santander effortlessly hit a home run to Cuba to put the O's up for good 5 batters into the game. Chance Sisco grounded out to first to end the inning with the O's up 3-0.
The Sox fought back in the top of the second as Christian Vazquez walked to start. Sam Travis launched his first home run of the season to put the Sox back in it. Michael Chavis flied out to center, Jackie Bradley Jr lined out to left and Sandy Leon popped up to first to end the inning with the Sox down 3-2.
The O's got another run in the bottom of the second although Steve Wilkerson grounded out to third to start. Keon Broxton flied out to center but Richie Martin tripled into the right field corner and scored on an error by Martinez for an unofficial inside the park home run. Villar singled to center but Alberto grounded into a force to end the inning with the O's up 4-2.
The Sox went quietly in the top of the third as Mr. Mookie flied out to right to start. Devers grounded out to first and Bogaerts flied out to center to end the inning. Mancini singled to right to open the bottom of the third but Nunez went down swinging. Santander forced Mancini at second and Sisco grounded out to second to end the inning.
Martinez grounded out to third to begin the top of the fourth and Vazquez flied out to right. Travis lined out to second to end the inning. The O's iced the game in the bottom of the fourth as Wilkerson singled to start and Broxton hit a home run all the way to Mexico to increase the lead. Villar foolishly bunted for strike three and Alberto went down hacking. Mancini whiffed to end the inning with the O's up 6-2. That was it for Price who allowed 6 runs in just 4 innings, terrible!
The Sox blew a rally in the top of the fifth as Chavis beat out a little roller to first to start. JBJ flied out to left but Leon singled to center. Mr. Mookie hit one up the elevator shaft and Devers popped up to third to end the inning. Colten Brewer came in for a beating in the bottom of the fifth as Nunez singled to left to start. Santander singled to right and Sisco was plunked to load the bases. Wilkerson scored Nunez with a sac fly and Broxton walked to reload the bases. That was it for Brewer as Ryan Weber came in and Martin beat out a double play ball to score Santander with another run. Martin swiped second and Villar grounded back to the mound to end the inning with the O's up 8-2.
Bogaerts flied out to left to begin the top of the sixth but Martinez walked. Vazquez flied out to right and Travis forced Martinez at second to end the inning. Weber cruised in the bottom of the sixth and Alberto flied out to right to start. Mancini grounded out to second and Nunez whiffed to end the inning.
Richard Bleier came in to pitch the top of the seventh and the Sox blew another rally. Chavis whiffed to start but JBJ and Leon stroked back to back singles. Mr. Mookie flied out to left and Devers whiffed to end the inning. The O's poured it on in the bottom of the seventh as Santander walked to start. Sisco singled to right but Wilkerson flied out to left. Broxton singled off the glove of Devers to load the bases. Martin took strike three but Villar singled home Santander and Sisco. Alberto hit a routine grounder to Chavis who booted it for an error that scored Broxton. Mancini whiffed to end the inning but the O's led 11-2.
Jimmy Yacabonis came in to pitch the top of the eighth and Bogaerts lined out to short to start. Martinez and Vazquez both went down hacking to end the inning. Marco Hernandez took over at short for the bottom of the eighth and Nunez doubled to left to begin. Santander flied out to right and Nunez moved to third on the grounder by Sisco. Wilkerson grounded out to first to end the inning.
Austin Wynns took over behind the plate with Miguel Castro on the mound to close out the top of the ninth. Travis went down hacking but Chavis grounded out to first. JBJ singled to right but Leon grounded out to second to end the game. The O's had won it 11-2.
Jackass of the Night is David Price. He got hammered for 6 runs in just 4 innings.
The Good:
Jackie Bradley Jr was 2 for 4.
Sandy Leon was 2 for 4.
The Bad:
Rafael Devers was 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.
Xander Bogaerts was 0 for 4.
The Ugly:
Mookie Betts was just 1 for 4.
JD Martinez was 0 for 3 with a strikeout but walked.
Christian Vazquez was 0 for 3 with a strikeout but walked and scored a run.
Sam Travis was just 1 for 4 with a strikeout but the one hit was a 2 run home run.
Michael Chavis was just 1 for 4 with a strikeout and an error.
Honorable Mention:
Marco Hernandez played short in the bottom of the eighth.
Final Thoughts:
Every time the Sox look to be gaining traction they just go out and throw up on themselves. They took 3 of 4 from the Blue Jays only to come to Baltimore and lay an egg. The Orioles are terrible yet they looked like world beaters against the Sox pitchers. If Sale found himself, its time for Price to do the same because this isn't going to cut it. There's under 2 weeks remaining until the trade deadline and this team needs another pitcher in the worst way. Not only that, once again when the Sox fell behind they went right into the tank. It helps not to be down 100 runs every game but once they're down, usually they stay down. When Jackie Bradley Jr and Sandy Leon are your top hitters, you're in deep trouble. The only positive is Ryan Weber sacrificed himself Tim Wakefield style to eat up innings to save the bullpen for tomorrow. The loss dropped the Sox to 53-45, 11 games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. Tomorrow night the Sox look to bounce back when "Slick" Rick Porcello (7-7) takes on Thomas Eshelman of the Orioles. The game begins at 7:05 PM at Camden Yards.
