Sabbathia nearly cruised in the top of the second as Sam Travis grounded out, Sandy Leon struck out but somehow Josh Rutledge singled off the glove of the diving Didi Gregorius. The hustling Rutledge made it to second base to boot. Jackie Bradley Jr took strike three to end the inning. Porcello cruised in the bottom of the second as Matt Holliday grounded out and Porcello struck out Starlin Castro on a 2 seam fastball on his hands. Gary Sanchez grounded out to Rutledge to end the inning.
The Sox went quickly in the top of the third. Deven Marrero and Mr. Mookie flied out. Young singled off the glove of Gregorius but Bogaerts grounded into a force to end the inning. The Yankees struck first in the bottom of the third when Gregorious blasted a solo home run to right center. Headley singled and the Sox pissed themselves when Chris Carter singled. Carter ran to second and Headley was telling him to back. Marrero then airmailed the throw to Travis and both runners advanced. Somehow Porcello struck out Gardner and got Hicks to pop up. Judge walked to load the bases but Holliday flied out to end the inning. What an effort by Porcello to keep it 1-0 Yankees.
Sabbathia cruised in the top of the fourth inning as Ramirez grounded out. Travis beat out an infield single as nobody covered first after Carter came over to field the grounder. Leon banged into a double play to end the inning. Stop me if you've heard this, once again the Sox aren't scoring for Porcello. It didn't matter as the Yankes struck back in the bottom of the fourth as Castro tripled to the centerfield wall to begin the inning. Sanchez slammed a single to center to increase the lead. Somehow Gregorious flied out but Headley singled. Carter then iced the game with a 3 run blast to make it 5-0. Gardner grounded out but Hicks walked. Judge looked at strike three to end the inning but the game was all but over.

The Sox tried to fight back when Rutledge tripled into the gap to lead off the top of the top of the fifth but he was quickly stranded. JBJ grounded right back to Sabbathia, Marrero popped up to right and Mr. Mookie popped up to end the inning. Porcello came back for the bottom of the fifth and got Holiday to fly out. Castro beat out an infield single but Sanchez grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Sadly the triple by Rutledge was the last hit of the game for the Sox. In the top of the sixth Young grounded out, Bogaerts flied out and Ramirez grounded out to end the inning. Porcello matched CC in the bottom of the sixth. Gregorious popped up, Headley struck out and Carter jacked one deep out to right, a fan reached over to grab the home run but ended up deflecting the ball into the glove of Betts for the final out. Jeffrey Maier be damned.
"Nice try geek" - MB
The Sox went quietly in the top of the seventh inning. Travis grounded out, Leon watched strike three go by and Rutledge grounded out to end the inning. The Sox reign of error continued in the bottom of the seventh as Gardner hit one to Rutledge who threw his glove at the ball and dropped an elbow on it, allowing Gardner to reach first on the error. Gardner promptly stole second but Hicks flied out. That was it for Porcello who was lifted after tossing 6 1/3 innings of (eventually) 6 run ball. Once again not his best effort but got zero run support.
The return of Porcelblow
Blaine Boyer came in and poured gas on the fire. Judge struck out but Gardner scored all the way from second on an infield single by Holliday to make it 6-0. Castro flied out to end the inning.
The offense didn't even try in the top of the eighth inning. JBJ grounded out, Marrero struck out and Mr. Mookie grounded out to end the inning. Considered washed up 2 years ago, Sabbathia had tossed 8 shut out innings at Yankee Stadium. Nice work Sox.
"I totally suck" - MB
Boyer returned for another beating in the bottom of the eighth. Sanchez struck out but Gregorius singled. Headley walked and Carter singled home Gregorius. Gardner singled home Headley and Rob Refsnyder ran for Brett. Hicks grounded into a fielder's choice and Judge flied out, but it was now 8-0 Yankees.
The game came to an end in the top of the ninth with Jonathan Holder on for the Yankees. Andrew Benintendi pinch hit for Young and grounded out. Bogaerts and Ramirez grounded out to end the game. The Sox had just 5 hits and zero after Rutledge's triple in the 5th, losing 8-0.
Jackass of the Night is Rick Porcello. Giving up 6 runs and getting knocked out in the 7th inning is not an ace pitcher. He falls to 3-8 on the year, woof.
Rick Porcello: Jackass
The Good:
Chris Young was 1 for 3.
Sam Travis was 1 for 3.
The Bad:
Mookie Betts was 0 for 4 with a strikeout.
Andrew Benintendi was 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter.
Hanley Ramirez was 0 for 4.
Sandy Leon was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.
Jackie Bradley Jr was 0 for 3 with a strikeout.
Deven Marrero was 0 for 3 with a strikeout and an error.
Blaine Boyer gave up 2 runs and allowed an inherited runner to score in 1 2/3 innings.
The Ugly:
Xander Bogaerts was just 1 for 4.
Josh Rutledge was 2 for 3 but his error allowed the 6th run to score.
Final Thoughts:
If this is what we can expect from Rick Porcello for the rest of the season, the Sox are in big trouble. On one hand not even Sandy Koufax can survive getting zero run support in 6 of your starts, but you can't give up 2 to 3 run bombs a game at the pace he's at. It doesn't help the Sox offense has gone to sleep again. Betts is in a horrible slump and the bottom of the order is a black hole. Not having Dustin Pedroia hurts but what is Hanley's excuse? The loss dropped the Sox to 32-26, 2 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. Tomorrow night David Price goes for the Sox opposite Michael "Pine Tar" Pineda in the rubber match at 7:05 PM.
