The good news was the Boston Red Sox held the Aaron Judge-less New York Yankees to just 3 runs in New York. The bad news was Domingo German and the Yankees bullpen was just a little bit better. Tanner Houck (3-6, 5.23 ERA) was tagged by Gleyber Torres for a fourth inning home run but Rafael Devers answered with a blast off German in the top of the sixth. Unfortunately Willie Calhoun took Houck deep in the bottom of the sixth and Kyle Higashioka knocked in a run against Brennan Bernardino in the seventh. The Yankee bullpen with Clay Holmes at the helm slammed the door and the Yankees had taken the game 3-1 at Yankee Stadium.

Billy McKinney struck out looking to start the bottom of the third and Higashioka struck out swinging. Anthony Volpe struck out swinging to end the inning.
Duvall flied out to center to open the top of the fourth and Casas took strike three. Arroyo got a base hit to center but McGuire grounded out to first to end the inning. The perfect game ended in the bottom of the fourth when Torres hit a home run into the Long Island Sound to put the Yankees on top. Donaldson lined out to center and Calhoun grounded out to first, but Stanton was hit with a pitch. Bauers grounded out to second to end the inning with the Yankees up 1-0.

Duvall swiped second but Arroyo struck out swinging. McGuire popped up to second to end the inning with the game tied 1-1.
Devers ties itThe Yankees finished off Houck in the bottom of the sixth as Torres grounded out to short to start. Donaldson grounded out to second but Calhoun hit a home run all the way to Montana to put the Yankees up for good. Stanton lined out to short to end the inning with the Yankees up 2-1. That was it for Houck after just 93 pitches in 6 innings. He allowed just 2 runs off 3 hits and a walk.
Houck deserved betterOswaldo Cabrera came in for Calhoun with Wandy Peralta now on the mound for the top of the seventh. Hernandez grounded out to third and Verdugo grounded out to first. Yoshida and Turner drew back to back walks, but Devers grounded out to second to end the inning. The Yankees iced the game against Brennan Bernardino in the bottom of the seventh as Isiah Kiner-Falefa pinch hit for Bauers. Kiner got a base hit to center but LeMahieu struck out swinging. McKinney grounded out to second to move Kiner to second and Sox manager Alex Cora brought in Josh Winckowski to face Higashioka. Kyle hit a routine grounder to Arroyo who naturally threw the ball away for an error to score Kiner. Volpe popped up to second to end the inning with the Yankees up 3-1.
"I don't got it" - ArroyoTommy Kahnle came in to pitch the top of the eighth and Duvall was hit with a pitch to start. Yankees winJackass of The Night is Enrique Hernandez. He was 0 for 3 and the only member of the starting lineup not to reach base.
Jackass HernandezThe Good:
Justin Turner was 2 for 4 with a walk.
Adam Duvall was 1 for 3 with a hit by pitch.
One of the rare times the winning pitcher is on the Good list but Tanner Houck allowed just 2 runs in 6 innings off 3 hits and a walk while striking out six.
The Bad:
Jarren Duran struck out as a pinch hitter.
Brennan Bernardino was charged with a run in 2/3 of an inning.
The Ugly:
Alex Verdugo was just 1 for 5.
Masataka Yoshida was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts but walked twice.
Rafael Devers was just 1 for 4 with a strikeout but the one hit was a home run.
Triston Casas was 0 for 3 with a strikeout but walked.
Christian Arroyo was just 1 for 4 with a strikeout and an error.
Reese McGuire was just 1 for 4.
Josh Winckowski allowed an inherited runner to score but none of his own in 1 1/3 innings.
Final Thoughts:
Its one thing to get shut down by an ace pitcher, its another thing to let "Flamingo" German stick it to you. That was as close to embarrassing as you can get. They actually out hit the Yankees 7 to 6 but the Arroyo error and lack of clutch hitting doomed them. Once again all the Sox needed was some momentum but fell flat on their face. Wasn't even the pitching this time, Houck did what he could and the bullpen wasn't THAT bad. The Sox haven't been scoring much lately but hopefully Duvall will pick up the slack. Otherwise, this is going to go south real quick in June. The loss dropped the Sox to 32-33, good for last place in the AL East. The Sox look to take the series tomorrow night on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Brayan Bello goes for the Sox against Clarke Schmidt of the Yankees. The game begins at 7:10 PM at Yankee Stadium.
