White Sox Crush Pilgrims in 7 Innings (5/31/01)

The bad news was the Chicago White Sox beat the daylights out of the Boston Pilgrims in today's game. The silver lining was the tortue only lasted 7 innings. John Skopec of Chicago allowed 5 runs through 7 innings but Ted Lewis (4-3, 5.16 ERA) was rocked for 11 hits and 10 runs before the game was called on account of darkness. Buck Freeman, Charlie Hemphill and Chick Stahl all had 2 hits with Freeman driving in 2 runs, but it wasn't enough. The White Sox crushed the Pilgrims 10-5 at South Side Park.

The distance between the White Sox and the Pilgrims is appalling. The Pilgrims just don't have the pitching to match the White Sox. Ted Lewis, Win Kellum, etc isn't going to get it done. Cyclone Young can't pitch every day and be effective. The Pilgrims are going to have to start finding anyone they can to throw the ball better than what they have or they're not going to win many games going forward. The offense was pretty good in this one but allowing 10 runs isn't going to cut it. The White Sox are damn good, the Pilgrims have a lot of work to do. The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 11-14, 9 games behind the White Sox for first place in the American League. Patterson Outduels Young, Pilgrims in Game 2 (5/30/01)

Things aren't going well for the Boston Pilgrims lately. Not only did they have a bunch of games rained out but they have now lost three of their last four games including both games of today's doubleheader against the first place Chicago White Sox. The Pilgrims jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Roy Patterson in the top of the fourth inning but Cyclone Young (5-3, 3.01 ERA) got tagged for 4 runs in the bottom of the frame. The White Sox got a fifth run and the Pilgrims once again made two errors courtesy of Tommy Dowd and Lou Criger. The White Sox pulled even further away in the standings as they beat the Red Sox 5-3 at South Side Park.

The White Sox are red hot right now and the Pilgrims can't hang with them. Clark Griffith took them to the woodshed in Game 1 and now Roy Patterson outpitched Cyclone Young. The Pilgrims clearly don't have the pitching to match Chicago so they're going to have to scour the semi-pros for anyone that can pitch better than this. When Cyclone Young can't save you, you know you're in trouble. Not kicking the ball around would be nice as well. The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 11-13, 8 games behind the White Sox for first place in the American League. White Sox Drop Beville, Pilgrims in Game 1 (5/30/01)

After rain and bad grounds postponed four straight games, the Boston Pilgrims returned to action by getting their asses handed to them by the Chicago White Sox in the first game of today's doubleheader. White Sox ace Clark Griffith tossed a complete game 5 hitter holding the Pilgrims to just 3 runs. Meanwhile Ben Beville (0-2, 4.00 ERA) got rocked for 4 runs in just 1 inning due to FIVE walks to get chased early. George Cuppy didn't fare much better by allowing 4 runs of his own in 7 innings with Fielder Jones driving in 4 runs on his own. As usual the Sox committed 4 errors as well as the White Sox took Game 1 8-3 at South Side Park.

Jackass of the Night is Ben Beville. He got rocked for 4 runs in just 1 inning off 5 walks to put the Pilgrims in a hole they couldn't climb out of.

Bad defense and bad pitching will lose you games and the Pilgrims lost this for sure. 4 errors, 5 walks allowed and not much offense in this one. I don't where they dug up Ben Beville but he's not going to get it done with performances like that. George Cuppy wasn't much better and if the Pilgrims want to win the pennant this year, they're going to have to pitch and play defense better than that. The Pilgrims have Cyclone Young but that's about it, he can't pitch every day. The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 11-12, no sense mentioning the standings until after Game 2. The second game begins in an hour or so and it features Cyclone Young (5-2) taking on Ray Patterson of Chicago at South Side Park.

Lewis, Pilgrims Blank Indians (5/25/01)

One day after the Boston Pilgrims were shut down by Roscoe Miller and the Detroit Tigers, the Pilgrims got their revenge against the Cleveland Indians. Ted Lewis (4-2, 4.50 ERA) shut down the last place Indians by tossing a complete game 6 shutout. On the offensive side of the ball, Ossee Schregongost went 3 for 4 and drove in 2 runs, outscoring the Indians all by himself. Earl Moore of the Indians went the distance but the Pilgrims pounded out 12 hits and 5 runs to win the game 5-0 at League Park.

That was a better offensive performance than against Roscoe Miller and the Pilgrims are going to need that moving forward if they want to topple the Chicago White Sox. Speaking of Chicago, they defeated the Philadelphia Athletics today, winning their 18th game out of 26. The Pilgrims improving their defense would go a long way if they want to win the American League this season. The win improved the Pilgrims to 11-11, 5 games behind the White Sox for first place in the American League. The Pilgrims look to make it two in a row against the Indians tomorrow afternoon when Win Kellum takes on Bill Hart of Cleveland. The game begins at 3:00 PM eastern time at League Park.

Miller, Tigers Blank Pilgrims (5/24/01)

This was a game to forget for the Boston Pilgrims. Roscoe Miller of the Detroit Tigers managed to silence the Boston bats by holding them to just 8 scattered hits in a complete game effort. On the other side of the ball, Pilgrims rookie Ben Beville (0-1, 1.13 ERA) was let down by bad defense, especially catcher Lou Criger. Criger allowed 3 stolen bases and committed an error. The Sox bats did nothing while the Tigers scratched out 3 runs to win the game 3-0 at Bennett Park.

That game was a kick in the pants as Beville pitched good but Criger threw the ball all around. The bats did almost nothing against Roscoe Miller and Buck Freeman had to leave the game. The Pilgrims need to get better defensively in a hurry because they're falling further behind in the American League. The offense is league average but that defense is atrocious. Like mentioned before, Cyclone Young can't save them every game. The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 10-11, 4 games behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League. Pilgrims Hold Off Tigers (5/23/01)

The Boston Pilgrims won their second straight game against the Detroit Tigers and they did it on the back of their ace, Cyclone Young (5-2, 2.82 ERA). Young was brilliant, locking down the Tigers in a complete game 7 hit effort allowing 2 runs although only one was earned. The Pilgrims offense got to Jack Cronin of Detroit for four runs with Charlie Hemphill and Ossee Schrecongost collecting two hits apiece. The two runs were driven in by Young himself and Hemphill. There were seven total errors in the game but it was the Pilgrims who came out on top with a 4-2 victory over the Tigers at Bennett Park.

The Pilgrims are back to .500 and as long as Cyclone Young stays healthy, they'll always have at least one pitcher they can count on. They still make a ton of errors but that's par for the course with this league. Detroit kicked the ball all over the field too and Jack Cronin can't be too happy about that. Still, the object of the game is to score more runs no matter how many errors you make and on this day the Pilgrims did better. The win improved the Pillgrims to 10-10, 4.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League. The Sox look to sweep the Tigers out of Detroit tomorrow afternoon when Ben Beville makes his Pilgrims debut against Roscoe Miller of Detroit. Pilgrims Drop Siever, Tigers (5/22/01)

After rain and poor playing conditions delayed the Boston Pilgrims from playing a game four straight days, the Pilgrims came back with a vengeance in today's game against the Detroit Tigers. Ted Lewis (3-2, 5.40 ERA) went the distance for the Pilgrims, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and 4 walks. Meanwhile the Sox bats sprang to life against Ed Siever and the Tigers. Detroit had a 3-1 lead going into the sixth inning when the Pilgrims rallied for four runs in the next two innings. A four run rally in the 9th sealed the deal as the Pilgrims beat the Tigers 9-5 at Bennett Park.

That was a big win against the first place Tigers and they did it with Ted Lewis on the mound. Lewis had been a mixed bag this month but today he was good enough to win. The offense stepped up with 9 runs scored with Stahl and Collins leading the charge. The team is still making way too many errors in the field and that's cost them a lot the first eighteen games of the season heading into this one. You'd think Collins would be practicing fundamentals before the games, but then again with all the rain they've dealt with, maybe they just don't have the time. Still, the Sox need to get closer to the Tigers and sweeping them is a must. The win improved the Pilgrims to 9-10, 5 games behind the Tigers for first place in the American League. The Sox look to make it two in a row against the Tigers tomorrow afternoon with their ace Cyclone Young (4-2) against Jack Cronin of Detroit. The game begins at 3:05 PM Eastern time at Bennett Park.

Young, Pilgrims Drop Orioles (5/17/01)

It took the Boston Pilgrims' best pitcher to do it but the Pilgrims finally broke their losing streak thanks to Cyclone Young (4-2, 3.19 ERA). Young was masterful, pitching a complete game 10 hitter allowing just 2 runs to the Baltimore Orioles. The Pigrims defense once again threw the ball all over the field to commit 4 errors, but Young did his part by striking out 9 batters. Offensively the Pilgrims were led by Young himself who went 3 for 4 with a run batted in. Buck Freeman knocked in two big runs and Jimmy Collins scored two runs. It all added up to a 4-2 victory over the Orioles 4-2 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Errors are going to kill this team in the long run and I think Pilgrims manager Jimmy Collins knows it. He benched Parent after making two more errors and its a good thing Young was on his strikeout game, who knows how many runs would have scored if John McGraw's club could make more contact. Young was great but he can't pitch every day, someone else is going to have to step up on the mound and more importantly in the field. How many more errors is this team going to make this year in close games?  The good news was the team continues to hit well, Young included. Freeman and Collins carried the offense and hopefully that can continue. The win improved the Pilgrims to 8-10, 6.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League. The Pilgrims look to take the rubber game of the series tomorrow afternoon. Win Kellum goes for the Pilgrims up against Jack Dunn of the Orioles. Pilgrims Rally Falls Short (5/16/01)

Another day, another loss for the Boston Pilgrims only this one almost turned into a miracle. Ted Lewis (2-2, 6.00 ERA) went the distance for the Pilgrims but got hammered, giving up 8 runs on 9 hits. Once again the shoddy defense reared its ugly head as the Pilgrims made another two errors. Things looked bleak in the ninth inning with the Washington Senators leading 8-2 behind Joe McGinnity but the Pilgrims rallied for five runs. Unfortunately, the rally fell short as the Senators quelled the comeback 8-7 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Well the offense was there today but the pitching and defense wasn't. Lewis gave up 8 runs and made an error. Hobe Ferris made the other blunder and you're not going to win too many games giving up eight runs. Hopefully the Pilgrims can rebound soon because they can't afford to fall behind any further than they are. Jimmy Collins needs to make the guys do fielding drills or something because this defense is atrocious. So much for the Boston Pilgrims offense. After being held to just two runs yesterday by the Washington Senators, today the Pilgrims couldn't even scratch out a single run against Wyatt Lee of the Senators. George Cuppy (1-2, 3.12 ERA) did the best he could by going the distance but allowed four runs to the Senator bats. Once again errors were a big factor as two errors by Buck Freeman led to two unearned runs scoring for the Senators. The Pilgrims mustered just four hits against Lee and the Senators handed the Pilgrims their fourth straight loss, 4-0 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Its amazing how an offense that couldn't miss just a week ago can't hit the broad side of a barn at home against the Senators. Lee doesn't turn 22 until August so losing to a kid THIS bad is nothing short of shameful. The season is long so this recent slump may not last but the Pilgrims look awful lately. There's not much you can say that hasn't already been said other than they need to cut down on the errors. Gear Outduels Young, Senators Beat Pilgrims (5/14/01)

Talk about going from one extreme to the other. After spending the first week of may beating the daylights out of American League teams averaging nine runs a game, the Boston Pilgrims have now lost three games in a row to the Washington Senators averaging about three runs a game. Today it was Dale Gear that shut down the Pilgrims, the same Gear that hadn't pitched since 1896 up until two weeks ago. Meanwhile Cyclone Young (3-2, 3.59 ERA was let down by his bats and defense AGAIN. Once again the Pilgrims committed another three errors, the unearned run Young allowed being the difference in the game. The Senators scored all their runs in the top of the second inning but only Tommy Dowd and Buck Freeman were able to drive runs in. The Pilgrims and Senators actually had eight hits apiece but the unearned run was just enough as the Senators handed Boston their third straight defeat 3-2 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

So much for that high powered offense. The Boston bats are back to doing nothing and making errors left and right. The Pilgrims must have the very worst defense in the league and its cost them a number of games now. Who knows what the outcomes of these games would be if they just cut down on the errors. Today in particular that third run was the difference in the game. Give credit to Dale Gear for shutting the Pilgrims down but the game could have been at least a tie if the Pilgrims just stop kicking the ball all over the field, Parent and Ferris in particular. If your double-play combo can't get it done, what are you going to do? Especially if they're ice cold at the plate to boot. Once again just have to tip your cap to the Senators and fight them again tomorrow. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 7-8, 5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League. The Pilgrims look to avoid a four game sweep tomorrow against the Senators when they send George Cuppy (1-1) to the mound against Watty Lee of the Senators. Sloppy Defense Sink Pilgrims (5/13/01)

Everyone knew the Boston Pilgrims hot streak wouldn't last and the Pilgrims came crashing down to earth in today's game against the Washington Senators. Bill Carrick of the Senators throttled the Pilgrims by tossing a complete game 6 hitter against them. The Pilgrims bad defense reared its ugly head as they committed FOUR errors in this one. Win Kellum (1-3, 7.15 ERA) was charged with 5 runs but two of them were unearned. The Pilgrims broke out to a 1-0 lead but the Senators scored all their runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to go up for good. Lou Criger and Charlie Jones drove in the only runs Boston scored against Carrick while Freddy Parent, Hobe Ferris and manager Jimmy Collins all made bad errors. It all added up to a back to normal 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Senators at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Well so much for that Pilgrims hot streak. They got cooled off at home by Washington and now they can't get out of their own way. Chick Stahl being out doesn't help but Collins and Parent going 0 for 8 with 3 errors is inexcusable, especially against Carrick. Carrick lost 22 games last year for the New York Giants and he pretty much blinded the Pilgrims today. Just have to tip your cap, pound a few at Third Base Saloon and come back again tomorrow. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 7-7, 5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League. The Pilgrims look to break their 2 game losing streak against the Senators tomorrow when they send their ace Cyclone Young (3-1) to the mound against Dale Gear of the Senators. Lee, Senators Snap Streak (5/11/01)

After a rain-out postponed yesterday's game against the Philadelphia Athletics to August 12th, the Washington Senators cooled off the red hot Boston Pilgrims bats. Watty Lee held the Pilgrims to just 8 hits and 2 runs in a complete game effort. The sad part was Pilgrims starter Ted Lewis (2-1, 6.00 ERA) allowed 3 first inning runs to the Senators but blanked them the rest of the way. The problem was the Pilgrims couldn't generate any offense against the Senators and Lee. Buck Freeman and Lewis himself knocked in the only runs before Freeman left the game. Chick Stahl being out certainly didn't help and Freeman leaving after a few innings hurt, but they still had plenty of chances to get a run. As it was, the Senators snapped Boston's five game win streak with a 3-2 victory at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Jackass of the Night is Charlie Jones. He was 0 for 4 out of the 3 hole in a game that ended by one run. One big hit here or there and the Pilgrims may have pulled it out.

One of the rare times the losing pitcher ends up on the Good list but Ted Lewis went the distance and allowed just 3 runs on just 3 hits, all in the first inning. He walked 6 and struck out 2. At the plate he was 0 for 3 but drove in a run.

Well that game was a kick in the pants. Ted Lewis held the Senators to just 3 hits in a bad first inning but the Pilgrims couldn't capitalize. They scratched out two runs but couldn't get anything else. First Chick Stahl being out then Buck Freeman leaving took two big bats out of the lineup as the game progressed. Larry McLean and Charlie Jones went 0 for 7 and that's a big reason the Pilgrims failed to come back. Can't really blame Lewis for this one, he even drove in one of the two runs the Pilgrims scored. The less said of this disaster, the better. The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 7-6, 3.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the AL East. Pilgrims Roll Over Athletics Again (5/9/01)

Quite frankly the Boston Pilgrims are unbeatable right now. The red hot bats that have been averaging 9 runs a game the past week did it again today against the Philadelphia Athletics. Tommy Dowd nearly hit for the cycle as the Pilgrims pounded out 9 runs on 9 hits against Chick Fraser of the Athletics. On the other side of the ball George Cuppy pitched arguably the second best game of the season, holding the Athletics to just 3 runs off 9 hits in a complete game effort. Nearly everyone in the lineup had a hit and a run scored as the Pilgrims won their fifth straight game and second in a row against Philadelphia 9-3 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Another big win for the Pilgrims as the offense keeps rolling with their fifth straight win. They've averaged 9 runs a game for a week now and have gotten solid pitching from Cyclone Young, Win Kellum and now George Cuppy. The offensive explosion won't last but this is definitely fun while its lasting. There's not one weak link in the lineup with everyone hitting above .277 when everyone is healthy. Chick Stahl being out hurts but Charlie Jones stepped up today. Let's see how long the Pilgrims can keep up this momentum. Young, Pilgrims Win Home Opener (5/8/01)

Today the Boston Pilgrims made their Huntington Avenue Grounds debut in front of the Royal Rooters and dominated the Philadelphia Athletics. The red hot Boston bats carried over from their road trip to smack around Bill Bernhard of the Athletics for TWENTY-TWO hits and 11 runs. Meanwhile Cyclone Young (3-1, 4.01 ERA) tossed a complete game while holding the Athletics to 4 runs off 11 hits. The offensive charge was led by Buck Freeman who drove in 5 runs while Charlie Hemphill went 4 for 4. All nine starters got a hit and when Chick Stahl left the game, his replacement Charlie Jones scored and drove in a run. It all added up to Boston's fourth straight win overall as they bashed the Athletics 12-4 at the Huntington Avenue Grounds.

This offense is rolling right now and Buck Freeman is the Pilgrims most dangerous hitter right now. He's got 16 rbis so far and the season is 11 games old. If it wasn't for their cold start they'd be in first place by now. There's plenty of time to overtake the Detroit Tigers so there's hope yet. Cyclone Young continues to be worth every cent Charlie Sommers is paying him as he continues to be Boston's best pitcher. Hopefully the pitching continues to improve around Young because this kind of offense can't possibly be sustained the whole season. There's going to be cold streaks at some point but enjoy this while you can. The win improves the Pilgrims to 6-5, 3 games behind the Tigers for first place in the American League. Kellum, Pilgrims Drop Senators (5/7/01)

Just when everyone was calling for the release of Boston Pilgrims starter Win Kellum (1-2, 8.64 ERA), he comes out and throws a complete game four hitter against the Washington Senators. After being complete batting practice against the Philadelphia Athletics, Kellum turned it around to hold the Senators to just 3 runs. On the offensive side of the ball, the Pilgrims were led by a 3 run home run by Charlie Hemphill to turn a 4-2 game into 7-2. Buck Freeman, Hobe Ferris and Lou Criger all drove in runs for the Pilgrims while Kellum worked his magic. In the end the Pilgrims had won their third straight game over the Senators with a 7-3 victory at American League Park.

The Pilgrims bats have been on fire the past week and they needed another pitcher to step up besides Cyclone Young. Maybe Kellum will help turn the pitching around. Defensively the Pilgrims made no errors and that's another good sign. When you don't kick the ball around, its easier to keep the other team off the scoreboard. Lewis, Pilgrims Down Senators (5/6/01)

It was mentioned how after Cyclone Young the Boston Pilgrims don't have enough pitching to compete in the American League. Well the offense more than makes up for the lack of pitching as the red hot Pilgrims bats once again smacked around the Washington Senators. Today Ted Lewis (2-0, 7.50 ERA) allowed 5 runs to the Senators but Watty Lee of Washington was rocked by the Pilgrims for 8 hits and 9 runs. The story of the game was the bad defense by the Senators. They committed 4 errors as a team which led to 4 unearned runs by the Pilgrims. All the runs added up and the Pilgrims had beaten the Senators 9-4 at American League Park.

Thankfully today they didn't really need it. Hopefully Boston can keep the momentum going in the final game of this series tomorrow afternoon. Young, Pilgrims Dominate Senators (5/4/01)

The Boston Pilgrims may have pitching woes that may sink their season in the end but Cyclone Young (2-1, 4.38 ERA) is going to be fun to watch this year. The 34 year old went the distance today against the Washington Senators, holding them to just 1 earned run. Young scattered 8 hits and struck out 7 without walking anyone. On the other side of the ball, the Pilgrims exploded for 15 hits and 10 runs against Washington starter Win Mercer and his replacement Casey Patten. Buck Freeman led the charge for the Pilgrims by going 3 for 5 with 4 big rbis. Once again the Pilgrims made a few errors, one of them led to a run by the Senators but Young worked his way around it. The Pilgrims came away the winners with a 10-2 victory over the Senators at American League Park.

The offense may have to score 10 runs a game to win when other guys are on the mound but they won't have to worry about it when Cyclone Young on the mound. Cy was his normal self in this one, holding the Senators to 2 runs while the Boston bats took down the Senators pitchers. Knocking out Mercer and getting to Patten ended the game early. Young at the plate almost matched Washington's production by himself and that's doubly embarrassing for Jim Manning's team. Charles Somers needs to find some pitchers to go with Young otherwise they won't have much of a chance moving forward. Who knows? Maybe they'll score ten runs a game, they've pretty much had to do it every game so far. The win improved the Pilgrims to 3-5, 3 games behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League. Senators Crush Foreman, Pilgrims (5/3/01)

It doesn't matter who they play, the Boston Pilgrims absolutely cannot pitch to save their lives. After the Philadelphia Athletics scored 26 runs the previous two games, today it was the Washington Senators who almost scored ten runs against the Pilgrims. Frank Foreman (0-1, 9.00 ERA) made his Pilgrims debut by getting smushed by Jim Manning' crew. The Senators cracked 8 hits for 9 runs while Bill Carrick held the Pilgrims to just 4 runs. The Pilgrims made no errors yet the Senators made 5, the problem was the Pilgrims couldn't capitalize on them. It all added up to a 9-4 victory by the Senators over the Pilgrims at American League Park.

Yet another game where the Sox pitchers damn near give up 10 runs. If its not Win Kellum its Frank Foreman. Besides Cyclone Young it doesn't really look good for the Pilgrims on the pitching side. Offensively the Pilgrims may need to score ten runs a game to compete and that would be pretty much impossible. Sam Dungan and Joe Quinn were almost unstoppable and Pilgrims pitchers need to key on them moving forward. All in all it was a bad day and hopefully better days are ahead. Pilgrims Annihilate Athletics (5/2/01)

The bad news was the Philadelphia Athletics once again beat up the Boston Pilgrims pitching. After scoring 14 runs yesterday they scored 12 runs in 19 hits against Ted Lewis (1-0, 11.00 ERA) and the Pilgrims. Their best player Napoleon Lajoie was 4 for 5 with a home run and 5 total rbis for the Athletics and everyone but left fielder Fred Ketchum had at least one hit. The good news was the Boston Pilgrims DOUBLED that production. The Pilgrims couldn't miss as they scored TWENTY-THREE runs off twenty-one hits. Every single man had at least one hit, one rbi and one run scored plus nearly all of them drew at least one walk as well. Jimmy Collins and Freddy Parent combined for 8 hits and 9 rbis while Ted Lewis made up for his stinker on the mound by driving in 4 runs of his own. Lou Criger and Hobe Ferris both had 3 hits as the Sox rolled over Pete Loos and the Athletics 23-12 at Columbia Park.

Hero of the Night is a tough one considering everyone contributed but I'll go with Jimmy Collins. The team captain/manager couldn't get anything right yesterday but made up for it today. He went 4 for 6 with five big runs driven in to pace the offense.

Giving up 26 runs and committing 8 errors is not a measure for success in two games but the bats came alive to salvage this one. Lewis got knocked around on the mound but he got 4 of the runs back on his own. The rest of the offense couldn't miss but games like this aren't going to be common. Good on Jimmy Collins to have his guys ready after Lewis got hammered by Win Kellum yesterday. The rumor is we won't be seeing Kellum again. Who knows who the Pilgrims will bring up to replace him. As for this game, great win but you can't expect to score 20 runs a game, especially when you're committing multiple errors and giving up 10 plus runs a game. Still, it was an exciting game for all 2,800 fans in attendance. The win improved the Sox to 2-4, 3 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League.
