Lockout Over, Season To Be Played (3/10/22)

There will be baseball in 2022 after all. Today the MLBPA finally hammered out an agreement for a new CBA which will begin Spring Training on March 15th. The season officially begins on April 7th which is eerily familiar to 50 years ago when the start of the season was delayed due to a player's strike. The Boston Red Sox missed winning the AL East by a half a game because of games lost.

Not to worry, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the 7 games missed will be made up in double-headers and off-days. The biggest change will be a new playoff format which will now mirror professional football. The top two Division will receive byes while the third division along with 3 wild cards make up the wild card round which is rumored to be a best 2 out of 3.

Finally, minor leaguers will be making a livable wage which is one of the reasons why the players wanted no part of the old CBA. There's rumors there will be larger bases, the elimination of shifts and a pitch clock which may take effect in 2023.

All in all there will be a season this year, and for a team that did almost nothing in the off-season through one reason or another....the Sox are in trouble. They have less than a month to get their act together.
