Final Thoughts:
Good win by the Sox playing without Reggie Smith and Tony Conigliaro and another great game pitched by Culp. The Sox are going to need another ace pitcher if they hope to compete with Baltimore next year because that's Boston's achillies heel. Their offense is as good as anyone but they just don't have the pitching the Orioles do. The Tigers are right there with the Sox with Mickey Lolich and not much else. Still, the Sox scored 14 runs but its only one game. There's still 18 games left in the season but the Sox are one loss away from elimination. Its a shame the season turned out this way because they weren't half bad compared to the last two years. The win improved the Sox to 75-68, 17 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the AL East. The Sox look to stave off elimination tomorrow when they play the O's themselves. Sonny Siebert goes for the Sox against O's ace Jim Palmer at 8:00 PM at Memorial Stadium.
