Off-Day News (7/18/16)

Today is an off-day but some sad news out of the minors first. Sean Coyle was claimed by the Los Angeles Angels today. Arguably the MVP of the 2013 Salem Red Sox that won the Mills Cup, Coyle looked headed for good things when he hit .295 with 16 home runs and 61 rbis for Portland in 2014, but flopped in Pawtucket in 2015 and 2016. He was hitting .185 in Portland when he was claimed by the Angels. Good luck in Los Angeles.
                                                                   Bye bye Coyle

On this day in Red Sox history:

The Sox return to action tomorrow night against the San Francisco Giants. Rick Porcello (11-2) takes on old pal Jake Peavy. The game begins at 7:10 PM at Fenway Park.
