Yankees Thrash Price, Sox (9/19/18)

One thing is for sure is the Boston Red Sox will NOT be starting David Price in Yankee Stadium in the ALDS under any circumstances. In an almost mirror image of their July 1st matchup, the New York Yankees smashed David Price while Luis Severino dominated. The Yankees won the July 1st matchup by a score of 11-1 and took tonight's game, delaying the AL East clinching celebration, 10-1. For those scoring at home Severino has allowed 2 runs to the Sox in Yankee Stadium while Price has been lit up AGAIN!
                                                    Price's face says it all

The Sox tried to rally early against Severino in the top of the first inning as Mr. Mookie Betts walked to begin the game. Andrew Benintendi lined out to center but JD Martinez singled Betts to third. A wild pitch by Severino moved Martinez to second but Xander Bogaerts popped up to short to end the rally. Mitch Moreland grounded back to the mound to end the inning. Price naturally walked Andrew McCutchen to open the bottom of the first but somehow got Aaron Judge to line out to second. Aaron Hicks grounded out to third and Giancarlo Stanton looked at strike three to end the inning.

The Sox did nothing in the top of the second as Ian Kinsler popped up to second to begin. Eduardo Nunez lined out to short and Sandy Leon whiffed to end the inning. The Yankees struck first in the bottom of the second although Didi Gregorius flied out to left to begin. Miguel Andujar hammered a 14,000 foot blast to give the Yankees the lead. Gary Sanchez walked and Luke Voit singled but Gleyber Torres whiffed. McCutchen walked to load the bases but Judge hit a perfect force play ball to Nunez. Instead of fielding it, Nunez dove on it and tried to choke it like a human which scored not only Sanchez but Voit as well to ice the game early. Hicks lined out to right to end the inning but it was 3-0 Yankees.
                                                       Here we go again

The Sox failed to respond in the top of the third inning as Jackie Bradley Jr whiffed to start. Mr. Mookie grounded out to third and Benintendi grounded out to second to end the inning. Somehow Price made it out of the bottom of the third as Stanton grounded out to third to start. Gregorius popped up to third but Andujar doubled. Sanchez lined out to center to end the inning.

More nothing in the top of the fourth although Martinez got a lucky base hit to start. Bogaerts popped up to short, Moreland whiffed and Kinsler popped up to second to end the inning. The Yankees struck again as Voit smashed a 40,000 foot bomb to increase the lead to start the bottom of the fourth. Torres flied out to right, McCutchen grounded out to third and Judge grounded back to the mound to end the inning but the Yankees were up 4-0.
                                                   Price gives up another

Somehow the Sox got one back in the top of the fifth inning when Nunez doubled to open the frame and Leon broke his huge 0 for 30 slump by singling him home. JBJ lined out to left, Mr. Mookie whiffed and Benintendi grounded out to first but the Sox were on the board 4-1.
"I GOT ONE! I GOT ONE!" - Leon

Price kept the score the same in the bottom of the fifth as Hicks lined out to left to begin. Stanton popped up to first and Gregorius grounded to first to end the inning.

Martinez looked to spark a rally with a base hit to begin the sixth but Bogaerts popped up to third. Moreland whiffed and Kinsler popped up to third to end the inning. The Yankees finally finished off Price in the bottom of the sixth although Andujar flied out to left to begin. Sanchez walked and Voit walloped a 130,000 foot blast to chase Price from the game. Once again Price pissed himself in Yankee Stadium allowing 6 runs in just 5 1/3 innings.
                                                     Nice going Price.

The hits kept coming as Joe Kelly came in to crap his pants much to the fans' delight. Torres grounded out but McCutchen and Judge stroked back to back single. Hicks had the crowd in a frenzy as he hit a scintilating triple to clear the bases and chase Kelly to a series of catcalls.
"You sucked just as bad as Price!" - Cora

Hector "The Insurance Policy" Velazquez was summoned to stop the bleeding and he whiffed Stanton to end the inning but the Yankees were up 8-1.

The Sox did nothing against Severino in the top of the seventh as Nunez lined out to center to begin. Leon popped up to third but JBJ singled. Mr. Mookie whiffed to end the inning. Sox manager Alex Cora emptied his bench in the bottom of the seventh as Sam Travis took Kinsler's spot in the batting order but was in left, Blake Swihart took Benintendi's spot but was in right, Tzu-Wei Lin replaced Bogaerts at short and Brandon Phillips took Martinez' spot and played second. Velazquez cruised by gettiing Gregorius to line out to center to start. Andujar flied out to left and Sanchez flied out to right to end the inning.

Jonathan Holder took over in the top of the eighth and Swihart greeted him with a base hit. Phillips popped up to second, Lin whiffed and Moreland flied out to center to end the inning. Travis was removed in favor of Brock "The Hitman" Holt with William Cuevas now on the mound. Voit and Torres stroked back to back singles before moving into scoring position on the McCutchen grounder back to the mound. Greg Bird grounded back to the mound but Voit scored and Torres moved to third. Hicks compounded his big night with a single to score Torres. Stanton looked at strike three to end the inning but it was 10-1 Yankees.
                                                    Sox couldn't get him out

The torture ended in the top of the ninth with rookie Justice Sheffield on the mound. Holt and Nunez stroked back to back singles but Nunez crumpled in a heep as soon as he hit first. He had to be carried out on a stretcher and hauled off in an ambulance, Christian Vazquez taking his place on the bases. Leon popped up but JBJ walked to load the bases. None other than Mr. Mookie banged into a double play to end the game. The Yankees had crushed the Sox 10-1.

Jackass of the Night is David Price. He got lit up in Yankee Stadium again for 6 runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
                                                   Better hide your face, Jackass

Honorable Mention:

Sam Travis played left field in the bottom of the seventh.

Christian Vazquez ran for Nunez in the top of the ninth.

Final Thoughts:

That was flat out embarrassing. Not only did the Sox look lifeless against Severino again but Price absolutely cannot pitch in Yankee Stadium. Yankee fans are dancing in celebration figuring if this is the Sox best effort, the Sox are screwed. The bullpen sucks, the rotation is in shambles and the Sox can't hit good pitching it seems. That's not a formula for success in October. The less said of this debacle the better The loss dropped the Sox to 103-49, 9.5 games ahead of the Yankees with 10 left to play. The Sox look to avoid a sweep tomorrow night with Eduardo Rodriguez going for the Sox against Masahiro Tanaka at 7:10 PM at Yankee Stadium.

Magic Number: 2
