It turns out not even Mother Nature can stop the red hot Boston Red Sox. With gametime temperature at a brisk 36 degrees with snow flurries, the Sox still managed to defeat the Minnesota Twins in what could turn out to be the coldest game of the year. The Twins jumped on Sox starter Martin Perez for 2 runs early but he and the Sox bullpen pitched shutout ball the rest of the way. Hunter Renfroe and Rafael Devers both homered but the star of the day was Bobby Dalbec who tied the game in the top of the fifth and put the Sox ahead in the eighth. Hiro Sawamura, Darwinzon Hernandez, Adam Ottavino and Matt Barnes slammed the door on the Twins and the Sox won their seventh straigh game 4-2 at Target Field.

Sawamura nearly got his head taken off on a liner drive by Simmons but Arroyo turned a 6-4-3 double play to salvage the situation. Cave struck out swinging to end the inning.

Final Thoughts:
After seven straight wins, there's not much to complain about anymore and that's never a bad thing. Every game somebody new steps up to be the hero and that's what you need during a full 162 game season. Renfroe and Dalbec have been quiet the first two weeks but they carried the show today. Devers hit one of the longest home runs in Minnesota history but it was the previous two that did the most damage. The pitching has been sensational and it was good to see Perez battle back from the first inning that he had. Sox manager Alex Cora rolled the dice by having Hernandez pitch the eighth and the kid got the job done. Matt Barnes has been unhittable so far this season and time will tell how long that lasts. The only thing to squawk about is the starters aren't really going deep into games but as soon as the weather improves, that will probably change. It was 36 degrees and snowy out, don't want to get somebody hurt in those conditions. Once again the Sox main difference between this year and the previous two is the ability to come back in games. Even the 2019 Sox with Mookie Betts usually packed it in if they were behind. Not this year's team. Due to the postponement of last night's game, tomorrow has now turned into a day-night, 7 inning doubleheader. Nathan Eovaldi (1-1, 1.46 ERA) goes for the Sox in Game 1 against Kenta Maeda of the Twins. The game begins at 2:10 PM at Target Field.
