Jays Sweep Chapman, Sox (6/18/26)

Once again the Boston Red Sox found a new way to lose in 2026. The team that was winless when trailing by 3 runs and trailing after 8 innings remained that way as the Jays rallied late to drop them on their fourth straight loss. The Jays got to Sonny Gray for 3 runs in 7 innings while the Sox amounted nothing against Trey Yesavage the first six innings. The Sox scratched out a run in the bottom of the seventh and from out of nowhere got back to back jacks by Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Caleb Durbin to tie the game. Only for indomitable closer Aroldis Chapman (0-2, 0.83 ERA) to allow an rbi double by Brandon Valenzuela to put the Jays ahead in the top of the ninth. The 0-39 Sox after 8 innings went quietly in the ninth to drop to 0-40, lose the game and get swept by the Jays 4-3 at Fenway Park.
0-40 when trailing after 8 innings

Gray got the ball in the top of the first and George Springer struck out swinging to start. Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit a home run all the way into the Atlantic Ocean to put the Jays up just two batters into the game. Jesus Sanchez grounded out to first but Yohendrick Pinango walked. Ernie Clement flied out to left to end the inning with the Jays up 1-0.
                                                                Jays up early again

Yesavage got the ball in the bottom of the first and Mickey Gasper hit one up the elevator shaft to start. Ceddanne Rafaela popped up to second and Wilyer Abreu struck out swinging to end the inning.

Nathan Lukes grounded out to first to start the top of the second but Kazuma Okamoto doubled to left. Brandon Valenzuela got a base hit to right to move Okamoto to third and Kazuma scored on the sac fly to left by Andres Gimenez. Springer doubled to left but Guerrero Jr grounded out to second to end the inning with the Jays up 2-0.
                                                          Jays get another run

Willson Contreras grounded out to second to start the bottom of the second and Jarren Duran struck out swinging. Isiah Kiner-Falefa popped up to second to end the inning.

Sanchez flied out to center to start the top of the third and Pinango popped up to third. Clement lined out to left to end the inning. Caleb Durbin flied out to center to start the bottom of the third and Connor Wong struck out swinging. Andruw Monasterio struck out swinging to end the inning.

Lukes flied out to center to start the top of the fourth and Okamoto grounded out to third. Valenzuela
took strike three to end the inning. Gasper pounded a ground rule double down the right field line to start the bottom of the fourth and Rafaela dropped down a bunt to move Mickey to third. Naturally Abreu popped up to center and Contreras struck out swinging to end the inning as the crowd booed.

Gimenez grounded out to first to start the top of the fifth and Springer grounded out to short. Guerrero Jr grounded out to short as well to end the inning. Duran lined out to right to start the bottom of the fifth and Kiner hit one up the elevator shaft. Durbin popped up to second to end the inning.

Sanchez got a base hit to right to start the top of the sixth and moved the second on the Pinango grounder to first. Clement hit a roller to short and Sanchez was thrown out at third. Clement was picked off to end the inning. Bad baserunning. Wong took strike three to start the bottom of the sixth and Monasterio popped up to first. Gasper flied out to center to end the inning.

The Jays finished off Gray in the top of the seventh as Lukes hit a home run all the way to Cleveland to start. Okamoto struck out swinging, Valenzuela flied out to center and Gimenez struck out swinging to end the inning with the Jays up 3-0. That was it for Gray who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, normally that would be good enough to win.
                                                      Gray deserved better

Suddenly the Sox sprang to life in the bottom of the seventh as Rafaela doubled to left to start. Abreu lined out to right to move Ceddanne to third and Contreras grounded out to short to score Rafaela. Duran grounded back to the mound to end the inning with the Sox down 3-1.
                                                                Sox get on the board

Justin "Incinerator" Slaten came in to pitch the top of the eighth and Springer got a base hit to right to start. Guerrero Jr flied out to right and Sanchez struck out swinging, but Pinango doubled to center. Springer came around but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Davis Schneider came in for Sanchez, Myles Straw took over for Pinango and Kiner somehow launched his second home run of the year to start the bottom of the eighth. Durbin then went back to back with his fourth home run of the season to tie the game. Wong grounded out to short and that was it for Yesavage. Tommy Nance came in and Monasterio flied out to right. Gasper got a single in the hole at short and Nate Eaton ran for him. Eaton stole second to put the go-ahead run at second....but Rafaela grounded out to third to end the inning with the game tied 3-3.
                                                          Durbin ties it up

Aroldis Chapman came in to blow the game in the top of the ninth as Clement got a base hit past the mound to start. Lukes popped up a bunt to Wong and Okamoto struck out swinging. Valenzuela then hit one up the elevator shaft.....NO! Wong dropped the ball and Valenzuela was given new life. Naturally he doubled high off the monster to score Clement all the way to first to suck the life out of the park. Gimenez popped up to second to end the inning with the Jays ahead 4-3.
                                                             Brandon watches it go

The Sox were 0-31 when trailing by 3 runs and 0-39 when trailing after eight innings going into the bottom of the ninth with Mason Fluharty now on the mound. Abreu flied out to center, Contreras grounded out to third and Duran popped up to third to end the game. Opposing closers were now 40 for 40 against the Sox as the Jays won 4-3.
                                                             Jays win

Jackass of The Night is Connor Wong. He dropped an easy pop up that would have ended the ninth inning, instead the Jays took the lead.
                                                              Jackass Wong

The Good:

Mickey Gasper was 2 for 4.

Ceddanne Rafaela was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa was 1 for 3 with a home run.

Caleb Durbin was 1 for 3 with a home run.

Sonny Gray tossed 7 solid innings allowed 3 runs off 6 hits and a walk while striking out 4.

Justin Slaten pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

The Bad:

Wilyer Abreu was 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

Jarren Duran was 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

Connor Wong was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.

Andruw Monasterio was 0 for 3 with a strikeout.

Aroldis Chapman took the loss by allowing a run in the ninth.

The Ugly:

Willson Contreras was 0 for 4 with a strikeout but drove in a run.

Honorable Mention:

Nate Eaton ran for Gasper in the eighth inning.

Final Thoughts:

Bad teams find a way to lose and the Red Sox do it every day. The Sox hadn't won a game when trailing by 3 or in the ninth all year and they were just about to pull it off. They somehow rallied down 3-0 to tie the game and had 2 outs in the top of the ninth....and Wong drops an easy pop up followed by a rare Chapman blown save. Why Sox GM Craig Breslow still has a job is beyond anyone's rational thinking. The Sox roll over and die in the ninth every single game and its an organizational failure. Opposing pitchers are pounding the strike zone at will because this team doesn't hit home runs. That's why they rarely draw a walk because pitchers don't have to be afraid. Kiner and Durbin tagging Yesavage was the aberration instead of the normal. Any other GM would be making trades or bringing up rookies from AAA to give them a shot to create a spark. Breslow literally puts his hands behind his head and watches every single game. This is one of the worst teams in Sox history and its all on him now. Can't use Rafael Devers or Alex Cora as a boogeyman anymore. John Henry, Sam Kennedy and Craig Breslow should all face their shame. The loss dropped the Sox to 29-43, good for last place in the AL East. The Sox now travel to Seattle for a three game set with the Mariners out west. Ranger Suarez (2-3, 3.21 ERA) takes on Bryce Miller of the Mariners. The game begins at 10:10 PM eastern time at T-Mobile Park.

Jays Bullpen Blanks Sox (6/17/26)

Of all the embarrassing losses this season for the Boston Red Sox, this might be the winner when all was said and done. Just hours before the game the Toronto Blue Jays were forced to scratch Max Scherzer due to injury and the Jays bullpen tossed a 7 hit shutout. Not only that certain pitchers who were batting practice for the Jays such as Simeon Woods-Richardson and Jeff Hoffman tossed shutout innings. Meanwhile rookie Jake Bennett (1-3, 4.79 ERA) was game, holding the Jays bats to 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings, but the Sox bats did absolutely nothing. The Sox as a team were 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position with 13 men left on base. The Jays got a run off Greg Weissert for good measure and blanked the Sox 3-0 at Fenway Park. How many runs did the Sox get John Cena?

Bennett got the ball in the top of the first inning and George Springer struck out swinging to start. Vladimir Guerrero Jr grounded out to first and Kazuma Okamoto flied out to left to end the inning. Braydon Fisher got the ball in the bottom of the first and Mickey Gasper walked to start. Ceddanne Rafaela flied out to right and Wilyer Abreu lined out to center. Willson Contreras walked but once again with two men on....Jarren Duran forced Contreras at second to end the inning.

Alejandro Kirk struck out swinging to start the top of the second and Ernie Clement did the same. Jesus Sanchez popped up to second to end the inning. Masataka Yoshida led off the bottom of the second by flying out to center and that was it for Fisher. Simeon Woods came in to pitch and Isiah Kiner-Falefa walked. Kiner stole second but Andruw Monasterio flied out to right. Marcelo Mayer flied out to left to end the inning.

The Jays struck first in the top of the third as Davis Schneider doubled to center to start. Myles Straw struck out swinging but Andres Gimenez got a base hit to right to score Schneider, putting the Jays up for good. Gimenez stole second and Springer was hit with a pitch. Both runners pulled off a double steal and Guerrero Jr grounded out to third to score Gimenez to ice the game. Springer stole third as the crowd booed Mickey Gasper. Okamoto grounded out to short to end the inning with the game over 2-0 Jays.
A two run lead is insurmountable

The Sox failed to respond in the bottom of the third as Gasper grounded back to the mound to start. Rafaela grounded out to first but Abreu doubled to left. Contreras grounded out to short to end the inning.

Kirk struck out swinging to open the top of the fourth and Clement popped up to first. Sanchez lined out to a jumping Mayer to end the inning. The Sox blew another rally in the bottom of the fourth as Duran walked to start. In a micocosm of the season, Duran was out when Yoshida's grounder struck him. Kiner walked but Monasterio struck out swinging. Mayer popped up to first to end the inning as Fenway booed again.

Schneider grounded out to third to start the top of the fifth and Straw did the same. Gimenez completed the trifecta with a grounder to third to end the inning. The Sox blew their biggest rally in the bottom of the fifth as Gasper flied out to center to start. Rafaela singled in the hole at short to chase Woods. Mason Fluharty came in and Abreu singled in the hole at second. Contreras struck out swinging but Duran walked to load the bases. Nate Eaton pinch hit for Yoshida and Spencer Miles came in to face him. Naturally Eaton grounded out to first to end the inning as the boos rained down Fenway.

Springer popped up to second to start the top of the sixth but Guerrero Jr got a base hit to right to chase Bennett after just 79 pitches. Bennett got no run support as he left after allowing just 3 hits and 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings. Tyron Guerrero came in and Okamoto struck out swinging. Kirk grounded out to third to end the inning.
                                                     Bennett deserved better

The Sox blew yet another rally in the bottom of the sixth as Kiner got a base hit to center to start. Kiner stole second but naturally Monasterio took strike three right down the middle. Mayer walked but naturally with 2 men on, Gasper popped up to center. Rafaela grounded out to first to end the inning as the boo's got even louder.

Clement took strike three to start the top of the seventh but Sanchez doubled to left. Schneider took strike three as cameras picked up Sox GM Craig Breslow looking sad. Straw grounded out to short to end the inning.
                                                     Reap what you sew, Craig

Nathan Lukes took over for Sanchez with Jeff Hoffman now on the mound for the bottom of the seventh. Abreu grounded out to first but Contreras got a base hit to right. Naturally Duran forced Contreras at second and Eaton forced Jarren as well to end the inning.

The Jays iced it in the top of the ninth with Greg Weissert now on the mound. Gimenez singled to right and stole second. Springer flied out to right to move Gimenez to third and Monasaterio dropped a bloop by Guerrero for a "single" to score Andres. Okamoto struck out swinging and Kirk forced Vlad at second to end the inning with the Jays up 3-0.
                                                          Vlad drives in a run

Tyler Rogers came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth and Kiner grounded out to second to start. Monasterio singled to center but Mayer grounded out to third to move Andruw to second. Gasper grounded out to third to end the inning as Fenway erupted in boo's.

Danny Coulombe came in to pitch the top of the ninth and Clement flied out to center to start. Lukes got a base hit to left but Schneider hit one up the elevator shaft. Straw doubled to left but Gimenez struck out swinging to end the inning. Louis Varland came in to close out the bottom of the ninth and Rafaela struck out swinging to start. Abreu and Contreras both struck out swinging to end the game. The Jays had won it 3-0.
                                                              Jays win

Jackass of The Night could be anyone but Greg Weissert makes sense. He allowed the third run to score in the eighth inning. Not that the Sox were doing much anyways but 3 runs is too much for this crew.
                                                             Jackass Weissert

The Good:

Wilyer Abreu was 2 for 5.

Jarren Duran walked twice in four plate appearances.

Mastaka Yoshida was 1 for 2.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 stolen bases.

Tyron Guerrero tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Danny Coulombe tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

The Bad:

Nate Eaton was 0 for 2.

The Ugly:

Mickey Gasper was 0 for 4 but walked.

Ceddanne Rafaela was just 1 for 5 with a strikeout.

Willson Contreras was just 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts but walked.

Andruw Monasterio was just 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.

Marcelo Mayer was 0 for 3 with a walk.

Jake Bennett took the loss but only allowed 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings off 3 hits.

Final Thoughts:

Sox analyst Dave O'Brien had the right idea when he said this game "felt like a root canal with no painkiller." Even he's sick of seeing these guys crap the bed night after night against the most mediocre pitchers. Leaving 13 men on base is just straight incompetence. How Sox GM Craig Breslow still has a job is beyond me. He fired Alex Cora two months ago so this is his team now and they've fallen completely down the drain. You can't blame him for injuries but you can blame the front office for lying about the severity to sell some tickets. "Yeah Roman Anthony is fine, he'll be back in a week" sounds a lot better than "He's done for the year, he won't play again." As for this game, the Sox haven't won a game all year when trailing by multiple runs or when they're trailing in the ninth. That is one of the most gutless stats I've ever seen. There have been some bad offensive teams over the years but none of them were that heartless. The 2012 Red Sox only had 3 walkoffs all year but 3 is more than zero. The Sox were banking on too many guys to be good this year only for them to suck. The absolute worst part is the Sox would be one of the best teams in the league if the offense just to performed to the standards they had last year. That includes Caleb Durbin who 3rd in the National League Rookie of The Year voting. Maybe they'll turn it around, maybe they won't. Sox fans just want them to be watchable and they haven't been watchable all season. The loss dropped the Sox to 29-42, good for last place in the AL East. The Sox look to avoid a sweep tomorrow afternoon when Sonny Gray takes the mound against Trey Yesavage of Toronto. The game begins at 1:35 PM at Fenway Park.

Jays Drop Unclutch Sox (6/16/26)

Its been an epidemic this season of how bad the Boston Red Sox not only play at home but with men on base. Tonight the Sox actually outhit the Toronto Blue Jays 8-7 but it was the Jays that hot the big ones. Payton Tolle (3-4,2.93 ERA) was tagged for 3 runs in 5 innings with fifth inning home runs by Davis Schneider and Andres Gimenez being the difference. Meanwhile the inept Sox were 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position leaving 13 men on base as Dylan Cease held the Sox scoreless through five. It added up to yet another home field dud as the Jays won 6-1 at Fenway Park.
                                                   "These guys are total washouts"

Tolle got the ball in the top of the first inning and George Springer walked to start. Ernie Clement struck out swinging but Vladimir Guerrero Jr forced Springer at second. Alejandro Kirk flied out to center to end the inning. Dylan Cease got the ball in the bottom of the first and Masataka Yoshida grounded out to short to start. Ceddanne Rafaela got a base hit to right and Wilyer Abreu walked, but Willson Contreras struck out swinging. Jarren Duran reached on a dropped up up by Cease to load the bases...but naturally Caleb Durbin flied out to center to end the inning. Bad teams find ways to lose.

Kazuma Okamoto struck out swinging to start the top of the second and Nathan Lukes lined out to left. Davis Schneider was rung up for strike three to end the inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa struck out swinging to start the bottom of the second and Marcelo Mayer did the same. Wong walked and promptly stole second, but Yoshida grounded out to short to end the inning.

The Jays struck first in the top of the third as Andres Gimenez looked to have been tagged out on a double to start. The Jays challenged and Gimenez was ruled safe. Myles Straw flied out to right to move Gimenez to third and Springer hit a sac fly to right to score Gimenez, putting the Jays up for good. Clement struck out swinging to end the inning with the game already over, 1-0 Jays.
                                                              Jays strike first

Rafaela got a lucky double to left to start the bottom of the third but naturally Abreu struck out swinging. Contreras struck out swinging and Duran grounded out to second to end the inning.

Guerrero Jr flied out to center to start the top of the fourth and Kirk struck out swinging. Okamoto walked but Lukes grounded out to first to end the inning. Durbin lined out to center to start the bottom of the fourth and Kiner was retired on a swinging bunt in front of the plate. Somehow Mayer walked and Wong got a base hit to left, but naturally Yoshida grounded out to second to end the inning.

The Jays finished off Tolle in the top of the fifth as Schneider hit a home run all the way back to Toronto. Gimenez then went back to back with a home run into the Charles River to ice the game. Straw grounded out to second but Springer got a base hit to left. Clement flied out to left but Springer swiped second. Guerrero Jr took strike three to end the inning with the Jays up 3-0. That was it for Tolle who allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings. Too bad the Sox can't score.
                                                           Tolle deserved better

Rafaela took strike three right down the middle to start the bottom of the fifth but Abreu walked. Abreu stole second but Contreras struck out swinging. Duran flied out to center to end the inning.

Tommy Kahnle came in to take a beating in the top of the sixth as Kirk flied out to center to start. Okamoto walked and Lukes got a base hit to right to move him to third. Schneider doubled to center to score Okamoto but Gimenez popped up to third. Straw grounded out to third to end the inning with the Jays up 4-0.
Schneider outscored the Sox by himself

Jeff Hoffman came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth and Durbin grounded out to third to start. Kiner struck out swinging and Mayer grounded out to third to end the inning.

Greg Weissert came in to pitch the top of the seventh and Springer flied out to left to start. Clement also flied out to left and Guerrero Jr grounded out to third to end the inning. Tyler Rogers came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh and Wong greeted him with a base hit to right. Naturally Yoshida flied out to left and Rafaela popped up to first. Abreu popped up to short to end the inning.

Ryan Watson came in to pitch the top of the eighth and Kirk popped up to first to start. Okamoto popped up to short and Lukes flied out to center to end the inning. Tommy Nance came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth and Contreras struck out swinging to start. Duran belted his 12th home run of the year to break up the shutout but Durbin popped up to short. Kiner got a base hit to center and Mayer walked. Sox manager Chad Tracy pinch hit Mickey Gasper for Wong and Toronto countered by bringing in Louis Varland to face him. Naturally with two men on Gasper struck out swinging to end the inning with the Sox down 4-1.
                                                               Duran hits one out

Naturally the Jays struck back in the top of the ninth as Schneider hit one up the elevator shaft to start. Gimenez struck out swinging but Straw walked. Springer then hit a home run all the way back to Toronto to increase the lead. Clement hit one up the elevator shaft to end the inning with the Jays up 6-1.
                                                           300 career home runs

Yoshida got a base hit to right to start the bottom of the ninth but Lukes robbed Rafaela with a big jumping catch. Abreu struck out swinging but Contreras walked. Once again with two men on, Duran struck out swinging to end the game. The Jays had won the game 6-1.
                                                                          Jays win

Jackass of The Night is Willson Contreras. He was 0 for 4 with a golden sombrero of 4 strikeouts. The Sox as a team left 13 men on.
                                                             Unclutch Jackass

The Good:

Ceddanne Rafaela was 2 for 5.

Jarren Duran was 2 for 5 with a home run.

Marcelo Mayer walked twice in four plate appearances.

Connor Wong was 2 for 2 with a walk and a stolen base.

Greg Weissert pitched a scoreless inning.

The Bad:

Caleb Durbin was 0 for 4.

Mickey Gasper struck out as a pinch hitter.

Tommy Kahnle allowed a run in the sixth inning.

Ryan Watson allowed 2 runs in 2 innings.

The Ugly:

Masataka Yoshida was just 1 for 5.

Wilyer Abreu was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts but walked twice and stole a base.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa was just 1 for 4 with 2 strikeouts.

Payton Tolle took the loss but allowed just 3 runs in 5 innings off 4 hits and 2 walks.

Final Thoughts:

Winless all season when trailing by multiple runs, winless all season when trailing going into the ninth, 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and 13 men left on base. That right there is why they're one of the worst teams in baseball. Its one thing to have a horrific offense that doesn't even get on base, its another to outhit your opponent and lose by 5 runs. We might be seeing the end of not only Craig Breslow but some of the players as well. At lot of people are jumping on the "blow it up" bandwagon and who can blame them? If they trade Willson Contreras, Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman for a lot of prospects, at least they have something to build toward next year, especially if anybody they get in return is major league ready. The worst part about it is the Sox usually have the pitching to beat anyone in the league, they just can't hit when it matters. The loss dropped the Sox to 29-41, good for last place in the AL East. The Sox look to rebound tomorrow evening when Jake Bennett (1-2) takes on Braydon Fisher of Toronto. The game begins at 6:45 PM at Fenway Park.

Rangers Bash Early, Sox (6/14/26)

Who needs momentum when youre the 2026 Boston Red Sox? After losing 4 in a row to the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees the Sox took the first two games of the following series with the Texas Rangers. Rather than get a crucial sweep, the Sox fell flat on their face against old pal Nathan Eovaldi and the Rangers. Connelly Early (5-5, 3.81 ERA) got rocked by the Rangers for 6 runs and 11 hits in just 4 2/3 innings. Meanwhile Eovaldi tossed 7 strong innings allowing just 3 runs. The Sox rallied for a run in the eighth and had the tying run on, but couldn't deliver the knockout blow. The Rangers had won the game 6-4 at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox season is on life support

The carnage started immediately in the top of the first as Wyatt Langford hit the first pitch of the game into the Charles River to put the Rangers up for good 1 pitch into the game. Josh Jung singled to left but Brandon Nimmo flied out to left. Ezequiel Duran took strike three and Jake Burger struck out swinging to end the inning with the Rangers up 1-0.
                                                           That didn't take long

Eovaldi got the ball in the bottom of the first and Masataka Yoshida struck out swinging to start. Ceddanne Rafaela struck out swinging and Wilyer Abreu lined out to right to end the inning.

The Rangers pounded Early in the top of the second as Justin Foscue got a base hit to center to start. Cody Freeman got a base hit to center and Kyle Higashioka hit a three run homer all the way to Soviet Russia to ice the game. Alejandro Osuna grounded back to the mound, Langford flied out to left and Jung lined out to second to end the inning with the Rangers up 4-0.
                                                           This one's over

The Sox did rally in the bottom of the second as Willson Contreras belted his 15th home run of the year to start. Jarren Duran lined out to left but Caleb Durbin walked. Isiah Kiner-Falefa beat out a roller to second and a wild pitch moved both runners over. Marcelo Mayer grounded out to first to score Durbin to cut the lead in half. Carlos Narvaez grounded out to third to end the inning with the Sox down 4-2.
                                                  Contreras gets the Wally Head

Nimmo grounded out to first to start the top of the third and Duran took strike three. Burger doubled to left and Foscue beat out a roller to third to move Jake to third. Freeman popped up to second to end the inning. Yoshida doubled to right to start the bottom of the third and moved to third on the grounder to third by Rafaela. Abreu somehow hit into a 3-2 double play to end the inning.

The Rangers iced the game in the top of the fourth as Higashioka grounded out to first to start. Osuna singled in the hole at short, Langford walked and Jung walked to load the bases. Nimmo doubled to center to score both Osuna and Langford to put the game out of reach. Duran grounded out to third and Burger popped up to first to end the inning with the Rangers ahead 6-2.
Nimmo says "that should do it"

Contreras took strike three to start the bottom of the fourth but Duran got a base hit to right. Naturally Durbin grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The Rangers finished off Early in the top of the fifth as Foscue got a base hit to center to start. Freeman got a base hit to left off the globe of Durbin but Higashioka popped up to short. Osuna popped up to short and that was it for Early. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits off 11 hits and 2 walks. Greg Weissert came in to freeze Langford for strike three to end the inning.
                                                            Early didn't have it tonight

Kiner popped up to short to start the bottom of the fifth but Mayer got a base hit to center. Narvaez and Yoshida both went down hacking to end the inning.

Jung flied out to center to start the top of the sixth but Nimmo doubled to center. Duran grounded out to third to move Nimmo to third but Burger grounded out to third to end the inning. The Sox got a run in the bottom of the sixth as Rafaela grounded out to short to start. Abreu flied out to left but Contreras jacked his 16th home run of the season to cut the lead in half.  Duran grounded back to the mound to end the inning with the Sox down 6-3.
                                                         Sox aren't dead yet

Jakob Junis came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth and Narvaez struck out swinging to start. Yoshida got a base hit to right and moved to second on a grounder to short by Rafaela. Final Thoughts:

This might be the most gutless Red Sox team in history. They haven't won a game all season trailing by multiple runs or going into the ninth all season and we're halfway through June. The 1992, 2000 and 2014 Red Sox teams were offensively challenged but not like this. You get a lead on them late and the game is over. You'd think law of averages would have ONE relief pitcher having an off-night in the ninth but nope, they've been perfect all year. The worst part is Early might have hit the rookie wall and with Garrett Crochet out, the Sox might be in trouble. Who knows if Patrick Sandoval will ever pitch again or if Brayan Bello is mentally recovered enough. The worst part is there's still 93 games remaining in the season and Sox fans want to blow it all up. Who can blame them? This year has been a complete disaster. The loss dropped the Sox to 29-40, good for last place in the AL East. After an off-day tomorrow the Sox are back in action Tuesday night at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston's Peyton Tolle (3-3) takes on Dylan Cease of the Jays at 7:10 PM at Fenway Park.

Sox Rally Past Rangers Late (6/13/26)

One of the most embarrassing stats of the 2026 Boston Red Sox is they are winless when trailing after 8 innings and almost winless when trailing after 7. Well good thing they weren't trailing after seven but they were tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers struck first in the top of the third against Ranger Suarez but Marcelo Mayer and Mickey Gasper answered with rbis in the bottom of the frame. A Michael Helman sac fly tied the game and it was on to the seventh. The Sox loaded the bases with 2 outs...inning over right? WRONG! Ceddanne Rafaela got a 2 run single to put the Sox ahead. Tyron Guerrero got taken deep by Jake Burger in the top of the eighth but Jarren Duran answered with a 2 run blast in the bottom of the inning. Aroldis Chapman slammed the door in the top of the ninth and the Red Sox had won two in a row with a 6-3 win at Fenway Park.

Ranger Suarez allowed 2 runs in just 5 innings off 6 hits and 2 walks.

Final Thoughts:

Better late than never for this Red Sox offense and that includes this season. not just this game. After sleepwalking through the first two months, it looks like things worked themselves out. The Sox were getting clutch hits and home runs today they weren't getting from the same hitters the first two months. Suarez didn't look his best but apart from one mistake to Jake Burger, the Sox bullpen shut things down. The pitching has been their strength this season but the bats appear to have finally woken up. Good to see Duran back in a groove and the trio of Rafaela, Abreu and Contreras keep motoring along. The Sox need to go on a nice long winning streak in a bad way before they fall too far behind as we are a month and a half away from the trade deadline. Most of the fans want to sell anyway but winning cures everything. Hopefully the Sox are in good shape moving forward. The Sox look to sweep the Rangers out of Fenway tomorrow night on Sunday Night Baseball. Connelly Early (5-4, 3.30 ERA) takes on old friend Nathan Eovaldi. The game begins at 7:20 PM at Fenway Park.

Sox Bash Rangers (6/12/26)

Before the game the Boston Red Sox organization bid goodbye to a couple of prospects. Right handed pitcher Jacob Webb, right handed pitcher CJ Liu, right handed pitcher Jorge Juan and left handed pitcher TJ Sikkema were all released yesterday.  Jorge Juan was signed as a minor league free agent in May of last year after being released by the Columbus Clingstones of Atlanta's minor league system. He allowed 5 runs in 1 2/3 innings this year and the Sox said enough is enough. CJ Liu was signed out of Taiwan back in 2019 and has been out the last two years with injuries. The Sox felt it was time to cut their losses. Sikkema was a career minor league relief pitcher and allowed 5 runs in 4 innings. The big one was Jacob Webb, a 2021 draft pick who seemed to be the closest to the majors in the middle of 2022. Instead he regressed and allowed 32 runs in 40 innings the last two years.
                                                                          OUT

As for the game, where has this been all year? The Boston Red Sox bats have been silent pretty much all year but not today young fella! Today the bats took out their frustrations on the Texas Rangers pounding out 12 hits and 10 runs. The Rangers got a first inning run against Sonny Gray (8-1, 3.03 ERA) but a Wilyer Abreu sac fly and Willson Contreras home run put the Sox up for good. The Sox got four runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away before Abreu went yard in the seventh inning. Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two run jack in the eighth inning and Contreras collected another RBI. Gray lasted six innings and the bullpen didn't allow a run the rest of the way as the Sox crushed the Rangers 10-1 at Fenway Park.

Gray returned for one final inning in the top of the sixth as Pederson singled to left to start. Jung lined out to center and Nimmo struck out swinging. Langford doubled to left but Duran grounded out to short to end the inning. With the Sox comfortably ahead, Sox manager Chad Tracy wanted to save Gray's bullets for another day. Marcelo Mayer was 0 for 3 but walked.

Connor Wong was 0 for 2 with a strikeout but walked, was hit with a pitch and scored a run.

Final Thoughts:

That's more like it. After putting up with a historically bad offense the first two months of the season, this is the kind of game the Sox needed. Beating the crap out of the Rangers with guys like Abreu, Contreras and Rafaela leading the charge is a welcome sight for sure. They still have problems with Duran and Durbin but there's still time for them to turn it around. Sonny Gray has been arguably their best pitcher this year and that was another solid outing from him. Better yet, the bullpen didn't vomit up their intestines either. Red Sox fans are still very angry and want to blow the team up so you have to have fun when you can. They'll probably score two runs at most tomorrow but it was fun to see them pour it on in this one. If the Sox can get some of their guys back healthy and playing better, this season isn't over yet by a long shot. The win improved the Sox to 28-39, good for last place in the AL East. The Sox look to make it two in a row against the Rangers tomorrow afternoon when Ranger Suarez goes for Boston against Jake deGrom of Texas. The game begins at 4:10 PM at Fenway Park.
