Off-Day News (8/15/22)

Its another off-day but rather than bore people with another round of "on this day", today we'll be taking a look at some of the recent transactions for the Boston Red Sox organization.

On Wednesday the Greenville Drive released infielder Brandon Howlett from the team. With Blaze Jordan and Marcello Mayer getting promoted from Salem, the .194 hitting Howlett became expendable. He was a 21st round draft pick by Dave Dombrowski back in 2018 and never panned out, it happens.
                                                                   Bye bye Howlett

On Thursday the Portland Sea Dogs released pitcher Joan Martinez from the team. The Sox promoted Casey Cobb from Greenville and that left Martinez the odd man out. Joan was signed as a Dominican free agent back in 2016 and looked good last year for Portland but fell apart this year, going 0-2 with a 5.94 ERA. Just another in a long list of Dominican kids that didn't make it.

On Friday the Greenville Drive activated pitcher Austin Lambright from the Injured List and released pitcher Devon Roedahl as the corresponding move. Roedahl was a 27th round pick back in 2019 by Dave Dombrowski and had a good year for Salem in 2021. This year he was 4-7 with a 9.38 ERA and was straight batting practice. Another late round Dombrowski draft pick that didn't work out.

Today the Florida Complez League Red Sox added 2022 3rd round pick Dalton Rogers, 5th round pick Noah Dean, 7th round pick Caleb Bolden, 11th round pick Marques Johnson, 12th round pick Hayden Mullins, 15th round pick Nathan Landry, 16th round pick Garrett Ramsey, 17th round pick Deundre Jones, 19th round pick Jaret Goodman and 20th round pick Connor Butler to the active roster. The trio of Mikey Romero, Roman Anthony and Cutter Coffey was activated last Tuesday so this year's draft class are making their pro debuts shortly.

Tomorrow night the Sox are back in action against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh. Nick Pivetta (8-9, 4.51 ERA) takes on Mitch Keller of the Pirates. The game begins at 7:05 PM at PNC Park.
