Sox Rout Angels (4/7/24)

Talk about a successful road trip for the Boston Red Sox. Sox fans went into the season expecting the absolute worst and instead they've taken seven out of the first ten games on the road against the AL West, culminating in yesterday's rout against the Los Angeles Angels. Tanner Houck (2-0, 0.00 ERA) was the star as he tossed 6 shutout innings against Mike Trout and the Angels. A day after the bats were held to 3 hits and a run, they exploded for 12 hits and 12 runs. David Hamilton smashed his first home run of his career while Tyler O'Neill, Reese McGuire and Rafael Devers all blasted their own. Chase Anderson mopped up the final three innings as the Sox took two of three in Anaheim as they beat the Angels 12-2 at Angels Stadium.

                                                             Houck The Hero

Tyler O'Neill was 1 for 3 with a walk, hit by pitch, home run and 3 total runs scored.

Triston Casas was 2 for 5 with a run scored.

Reese McGuire was 2 for 4 with a stolen base, home run, a walk and 5 total rbis.

David Hamilton was 2 for 4 with a walk and a home run.

The Bad:

Bobby Dalbec was 0 for 1 at the plate.

Wilyer Abreu was 0 for 2 with a strikeout.

The Ugly:

Jarren Duran was just 1 for 6 with 2 strikeouts but scored a run.

Masataka Yoshida was just 1 for 4 but walked, drove in a run and scored two runs.

Enmanuel Valdez was 0 for 4 with a hat trick of three strikeouts but walked and scored a run.

Chase Anderson allowed 2 runs in 3 innings to earn the save.

Final Thoughts:

One day after the bats did absolutely nothing, they terrorize the Angels pitching. Still, better to be schizophrenic than non-existent. The loss of Trevor Story to a dislocated shoulder (and that may not be all) is a huge blow but the others stepped it up today. The big story was Houck going 6 strong innings and Anderson going the final three to save the bullpen. Between today and the off-day tomorrow, the bullpen will be rested for Tuesday's home opener. The Sox end their opening west coast trip at 7-3 and who saw that coming? Even the 3 losses could have been wins if certain things go their way but its better than 3-7. After an off-day tomorrow, the Sox finally come home for their home opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Sox welcome the Baltimore Orioles and their ace Corbin Burnes while the Sox counter with Brayan Bello (1-0, 5.40 ERA). The game begins at 2:05 PM at Fenway Park.
