Ceddanne Rafaela was 0 for 3 but walked twice and stole a base.
Garrett Crochet got the win but got rocked for 5 runs off 6 hits and a walk.
Final Thoughts:
This was a big win for the Sox considering they are in the middle of a nine game death march through Tampa Bay and New York. Crochet didn't have it tonight but the bats picked him up in this one. The Sox need to make a statement in the next seven games or else they're going to be looking to sell at the trade deadline. Story was the difference maker in this one driving in 5 runs and the Sox can't get Alex Bregman back fast enough to join this offense. All they need is to keep everything consistent and they can get back into this race. Apart from Justin Wilson, Weissert and Chapman slammed the door big time. One thing that has been consistent all season has been the back end of the bullpen. Once the game gets to Justin Slaten, Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman the game is as good as over. They just need to get consistent starts out of Walker Buehler, Brayan Bello and anyone they throw out there as the fifth starter. If they can put it all together, they might get back into this thing. The win improved the Sox to 31-35, 9.5 games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. The Sox look to take the series tomorrow when Hunter Dobbins (2-1) takes on Carlos Rodon of New York. The game begins tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at Yankee Stadium.
